Exchange Telegraph .sx BURNLEY WEAVERS TO STRIKE TO-DAY .sx Against Attempt To Enforce More Looms .sx ( From Our Own Correspondent .sx ) BURNLEY , Sunday .sx - Weavers at Spencer's Mill here are to strike work to-morrow morning against Spencer's attempt to introduce the more-loom system .sx This decision was arrived at yesterday when the mill finished at noon , and the workers were addressed by Hindle and Naesmith , of the Weavers' Amalgamation .sx Spencer , as stated in Saturday's DAILY WORKER , has admitted that the new system would mean many dismissals , but as a sop to the redundant workers he says he will pay 30 a week into a fund for their benefit - " on condition that there shall be no opposition from the displaced weavers .sx " Spencer resigned from the bosses' association in order to enforce the more-loom system .sx He has now carried his attack a stage further by sending postcards to a number of his workers , allocating them to eight , six and four looms .sx UNEMPLOYED WIN FIRST ROUND .sx Demonstration Of 2,000 To Manchester P.A.C. .sx ( From Our Worker Correspondent .sx ) MANCHESTER .sx Unemployed workers here have won the first round in the fight against reductions in relief .sx On Wednesday a demonstration of 2,000 unemployed workers marched to All Saints , Manchester , to protest against the City Council's threat to cut relief by 57,000 .sx In order that the Council could spring the cut upon the unemployed without any protest they called a special meeting of the Public Assistance Committee for Wednesday , when the usual meeting should not be until the end of the month .sx We had three days to get the unemployed together .sx In spite of the provocation by the police the workers began to slowly mass round the Gorton Town Hall that was decided on as the meeting place .sx The police gave instructions that there should be no demonstration , but the unemployed decided otherwise .sx A comrade sounded the fall-in with a bugle and the workers began to march off under the banner of the Unemployed Workers' Movement along with slogans such as :sx " Down with the baby starvers !sx " etc. .sx The baby-starvers decided to refer back the cut on seeing the revolt of the unemployed and we thus won the first round .sx The matter will again be discussed at the full Council Meeting in April , when the N.U.W.M. will organise a still larger demonstration to march to Albert Square Town Hall .sx Over 80 copies of the DAILY WORKER were sold and several members enrolled in the N.U.W.M. , although there were several organisational weaknesses .sx This meeting was going to take the first cut of 1s .sx off the children's allowance .sx Weavers Strike At Burnley .sx AGAINST NEW EIGHT LOOM ATTEMPT .sx ( From Our Own Correspondent .sx ) BURNLEY .sx Monday .sx - .sx " That this meeting of the N.F.B.T.O. shop stewards decides that the attack on the members of the E.T.U. is a part of the employers' attempts to reduce the wages in the building trade , and declares its solidarity with the electricians now on strike against wage reductions and instructs the district officer ( N.F.B.T.O. ) to take immediate steps to call out in support all members of the various unions affiliated to the N.F.B.T.O. in support of the electricians .sx " The resolution was turned down by the chairman on the plea that the stewards' meeting could not call for strike action over the metropolis and " that a withdrawal of labour could only take place with the consent of the Executives of the Unions concerned .sx " An amendment that the original resolution " should be recommended to the London Regional Council " was then passed unanimously .sx At the meeting steward after steward registered their disgust with the hush-hush policy of the Federation officials who are now organising the new agreement .sx J. Plummer , chairman of the London Painters' Stewards' Council , in his speech called for active job committees under independent leadership with a fighting policy .sx This fighting policy will be put forward at a mass meeting of London building workers , organised by the Building Workers Minority Movement , to be held on Sunday next at 10.30 a.m. , at Friars Hall , Blackfriars Road .sx BRICKYARD WORKERS OUT .sx ( From Our Worker Correspondent .sx ) HALIFAX .sx - The workers at Pate and Green's Brickyard here are standing on strike solidly against a wage-cut of 3s .sx a day for day workers , and five per cent .sx for pieceworkers .sx The Labour Exchange is advertising for scabs , and although no one can be legally forced to blackleg , the militants are pointing out the danger and urging the formation of a rank-and-file strike committee .sx
