J. Tomlinson , in declaring the pageant open , said the attendance reflected the keen interest which was being taken in what had now become a permanent institution .sx " This is the first pageant that has been held on this Aerodrome since its inauguration 12 months ago , " he said .sx The Pageant followed the Mayor's speech immediately , opening with a general fly past of all the 'planes assembled at the 'drome , as the prelude to a long and varied programme .sx One of the most important men in the Pageant was Herr Kronfeld , the famous gliding expert , who came from London with Colonel the Master of Sempill in the latter's Puss Moth .sx Despite a strong wind which was blowing , Herr Kronfeld was towed in his glider to a height of 800 or 900 feet and released .sx He glided smoothly and evenly just underneath the clouds around the aerodrome .sx A BIG THRILL .sx The spectators got a real thrill from an exhibition of aerobatics given by Captain Blake on a Blackburn-Lincock machine .sx The pilot performed successive upward spins , rolls at the top of loops , and rolls from short periods of flying on his back .sx The bad flying conditions , high wind and low clouds , considerably enhanced the dangers of his performance , and Captain Blake was loudly applauded on his return to the ground .sx An autogiro exhibition followed , the green windmill machine which has the ability to hover almost motionless in the air , landing neatly inside a tennis court marked on the 'drome and taking off again .sx Captain R. A. C. Brie was the pilot .sx HIGH LIGHTS .sx High lights of the Pageant were a parachute descent , aerobatic displays and a flight round Blackpool , which was won by Col .sx L. A. Strange , who had previously won the London to Blackpool air race for a gold trophy in a field of 14 of the country's leading R.A.F. and civil pilots .sx The prizes won in the pageant were presented by the Mayoress of Blackpool ( Mrs. P. J. Tomlinson ) , and were as follows :sx - WIRELESS BOGEY .sx Pyjama-clad Electrician Slays It At Last ?sx An electrician clad in pyjamas , after crawling over the joists under the eaves of a roof , has , it is hoped , laid the bogey which has been ruining wireless reception in the Raieks Estate area for some time .sx Following a protest in " The Evening Gazette , " and correspondence with the B.B.C. , officials of the local Post Office , together with representatives of the Electricity Department , in force investigated the complaint .sx It did not take very long for them to discover that the cause of the trouble was a leakage on the electric circuit , and that this break in the circuit was upsetting one side of Lincoln-road , part of Hornby-road , and part of one side of Leicester-road .sx By means of a very sensitive detector , aided by the expert knowledge of the electricians , the source of the leakage was definitely located , and , strangely enough , in the roof of the house occupied by a wireless enthusiast , who had suffered , not uncomplainingly , from the interference .sx The electrician who clambered into the space under the roof , saw sparks which had no right to be there , and found a break in the wireless cable which set up a continuous , machine-gun-like noise - a noise which was growing in intensity the longer it remained unchecked .sx Thus , after many weeks of spoiled programmes , it is believed that wireless listeners will be able to enjoy their programmes without interference and the officials concerned will receive the thanks of many listeners who were beginning to despair of wireless reception .sx MADE ILL BY 30,000 !sx Sweep Winner Seeks Health at Blackpool .sx A Middlesborough_man who drew Cameronian in the last Irish sweepstake , and whose health was affected by the strain and worry of the race , is recuperating in Blackpool , on his doctor's orders .sx He is Mr. J. C.
