East Hull Harriers' Peter Harrison made a winning comeback at the weekend .sx On Sunday he came first in the 800m in the Humberside Masters held at the Costello Stadium and he completed a hat-trick of wins by romping home in the 1500 and 800m in the 50-54 age group .sx On Saturday he claimed second place sic !sx he'd had in the East Hull Harriers Summer League .sx Lambert makes a swift return .sx By Malcolm Richardson .sx SEAHAWKS REPORTER .sx HUMBERSIDE Seahawks player-coach Dale Lambert today praised the fracture clinic at Hull Royal Infirmary for 'altering' his fiberglass cast which means he can now make his come-back in tonight's Pennine Cup clash with Blackburn Blackhawks at the Ice Arena ( ) .sx " They have been marvellous to make such adjustments to the cast which means I can now get a glove on " enthused Lambert , who has a broken thumb and is being forced to make his return two weeks earlier than anticipated - and against doctor's orders !sx .sx " No-one wants me to play for another couple of weeks but I don't see I have any alternative " says Lambert .sx " With our guest import Ransome Durcar having this week signed for Durham we just haven't been able to find a replacement - and in any case I need to get back into the thick of the action .sx " .sx Disappointed with much of the Seahawks' recent performances he has been issuing a battle-cry this week to shake them out of their summertime blues .sx " The holiday is over , it's time we all got back to work " he storms .sx Tonight the Seahawks hold an 11-4 lead from the first leg of the Pennine Cup , a new challenge match between the two clubs , and Lambert is using the chance to try out his fitness .sx " I've been out for a couple of weeks and I need to get used to the pace of the game again , " he says .sx " Sunday's match is much more important when we play Billingham in the Autumn Cup ( 5.45 at the Ice Arena) .sx " The British Ice Hockey Association have given us a second chance in this competition and we have to grab it .sx " .sx The Seahawks were beaten 9-6 at Telford on Tuesday but the BIHA overturned the result and gave the Seahawks a 5-0 win after Telford illegally iced import Dan Sweeney .sx It means the Seahawks now surprisingly top the table on goal difference from Nottingham , who , however , have a match in hand .sx All the signs are that the group champions will be decided on the final match - when Nottingham visit Hull on September 29 .sx Hull II hold on for Yorkshire League victory .sx black-square TABLE TENNIS .sx SEVEN of Hull's Yorkshire Table Tennis League sides went into action last week , with five matches taking place on Humberside and the Mens II and Ladies travelling to Scarborough and Leeds respectively .sx Hull's Division 1 side got away to a winning start despite a maximum for Ashley Hodgson for Scarborough .sx Dave Randerson , Ian Parker and Mark Farnill each scored two victories for Hull II who ran out 6-4 winners .sx Hull III 9 , Keighley 1 .sx Dave Burnham and Mark Williams ( 3 each ) and newcomer from York , Chris Haynes ( 2 ) scored well in Hull III's runaway 9-1 win over Keighley .sx Leeds II 6 .sx Hull Ladies 4 .sx Hull Ladies , with Irene and Nicky Thompson , the first mother and daughter combination to represent the county both winning twice , went down 6-4 to Leeds II .sx Hull Vet 3 , York 7 .sx Mick Farnill ( 2 ) , Dave Bartlett scored wins as Hull Vets went down 7-3 to York .sx Terry Jarvis won twice as Hull Vet II lost 8-2 to Bradford .sx Hull Vet III were 7-3 winners over Halifax with seven games going the distance .sx Alan Hedley ( 3 ) , Ron Wicks and Mick North ( 2 ) were in good form for Hull IV as they defeated Dewsbury III 8-2 .sx There was considerable success for the city's young stars at the Final Yorkshire Junior/Cadet Trials held at Leeds over the weekend .sx Phil Neal , who attained a national No .sx 3 ranking with the Cadets last season , and is now in his first year as a Junior , took top place in the Junior Boys ahead of his closest rival Andrew Nicholls ( Selby ) with Mark Smith ( Bradford ) and Richard Potter ( Leeds ) taking the remaining places in the four strong squad eligible to go through to the National trials at Lilleshall on December 28 .sx With the Cadets , Wayne Marsh took the last of the three National places available , behind Tony Hudson ( Leeds ) and David Smith ( Huddersfield ) , thanks to a fine victory over Hudson which clinched his place .sx Keeping the east of the county to the fore among the girls was Zoe Fisher , who competed at both levels and claimed two second places .sx Both Neal and Miss Fisher have been named in the Yorkshire Junior Division 1 side to meet Clwyd at Bradford on December 1 , with Fisher making her County debut .sx Following the trials , Marsh travelled down to St. Ives ( Cambridgeshire ) where he teamed up with Andrew Sugarman , excused trials by virtue of his national ranking , and Peter Marshall to compete in the St. Ives Invitation Team Tournament .sx Ninety Six players in 32 teams came out in the morning , and the Hull boys came comfortably through their group of eight , taking top place without the loss of a set .sx The semi-final brought yet another straight sets win over Brentwood , who included Stephen Joslin , two wins over Marsh to his credit this season , but there was to be no stopping the Hull boys now , and they despatched Bedford , semi-final winners over Stadt Tallendorf from Germany , again by the 3-0 margin .sx With all three Hull boys returning a clean sheet , the award for 'Player of the Tournament' was not straightforward , the decision finally going in favour of Sugarman following a points countback .sx Classy Cas again destroy the Rovers .sx By John Fieldhouse .sx HULL KR REPORTER .sx HULL KR coach George Fairbairn reckons Leeds are his favourite side .sx On the evidence of yesterday's clash at Craven Park , it's a fair bet that Castleford must currently rank as his least favourite !sx Two weeks ago , they dumped Fairbairn's local heroes out of the Yorkshire Cup in emphatic style .sx And yesterday , the men from Wheldon road breezed into Craven Park .sx .. and proceeded to hand out a top flight lesson to Rovers before steaming back along the M62 with two precious points tucked safely in their bag .sx Rovers approached the match full of hope , especially after the much-needed win at Swinton last Sunday .sx But 'classy Cas' were a much tougher proposition , hardly surprising really as their line-up packed in seven full internationals .sx They possessed the power and pace when it mattered most .sx Rovers never stopped battling with rookie prop Chris Harrison setting a tremendous lead but on the day they lacked the know-how when - and where - it mattered most .sx Rovers couldn't have made a better start .sx Like the majority of games this season , they attacked strongly from the kick-off and this time they got vital points on the board .sx But Castleford clawed their way back into a 10-6 lead after 16 minutes and then led 14-12 at the interval before effectively settling the match with two touchdowns in the opening quarter of the second half .sx First , power-packed loose forward Tawera Nikau pounded through some shoddy tackling to set up a try for fellow Kiwi international Richard Blackburn .sx Cas' then struck again with another long range effort , full back Graham Steadman sidestepping his way through another poor bout of tackling before sending Blackburn romping over from 25 yards out .sx Rovers found themselves trailing 22-12 with just 20 minutes remaining .sx They were in need of a miracle but those are in pretty short supply at Craven Park these days .sx At least Rovers battled until the bitter end and Castleford did their best to help , committing a series of handling errors while watching prop Keith England sin-binned after he hit-out at home sub Wayne Jackson at a play-the-ball .sx Rovers did have their chances but , unlike Castleford , they lacked the players with the authority to turn possible half-gaps into clear-cut openings .sx Those two second half tries may have eventually proved the matchwinners but Castleford always had the edge in players like Lee Crooks , Nikau , Steadman and Blackburn .sx Rovers , it must be said , hardly helped themselves with some poor tactical work , particularly in the opening half .sx When they were pinned back in their own 25 , they persisted in trying to play their way out of trouble when what was called for was the 'order of the boot' - as far down field as possible .sx Five times , Rovers lost the ball inside their own 25 .sx On two occasions Castleford cashed in with tries - the other three times Rovers just managed to keep the visitors out .sx Rovers did produce a kicking game in the second half and succeeded in driving Castleford back .sx For the first time in the match players like Crooks and Steadman looked vulnerable as they were forced to back-pedal .sx By then , though , the damage had already been done .sx Former Hull favourite Crooks was a mighty figure for Castleford but his efforts were more than matched by Harrison , who produced a thundering display .sx There were fine efforts by fellow packmen Paul Fletcher , Andy Thompson and Paul Speckman while Richard Chamberlain again impressed in his second senior outing .sx But that all-important spark was missing behind the scrum .sx Half backs Gary Chatfield and debutante Troy McCarthy worked hard - but that's not enough , though , to crack sides of Castleford's calibre .sx The threequarters had a particularly torrid time and it was left to full back Mike Fletcher to often make most progress against a resolute defence .sx That electrifying start by the Robins was set up by a Chatfield touchfinder .sx Chamberlain took the resulting scrum against the head and Castleford hardly knew what hit them as they were slapped back onto their own line .sx The try duly came - in bizzare style .sx Chatfield's up and under sliced off his boot , and went backwards .sx McCarthy , though , gathered the ball and fed Paul Lyman who powered over with three defenders hanging grimly on his back .sx Fletcher goaled .sx The good start was soon just a memory as Castleford powered back .sx Dominating possession , they pressed strongly and Steadman's kick on the sixth tackle squirmed out of Chatfield's grasp and Anderson took full advantage to score .sx Steadman the provider proved to be Steadman the scorer just a few minutes later , crossing after yet another of his kicks caught Rovers flat-footed and short-handed on their own line .sx Crooks goaled .sx It says much for the spirit and character in Rovers camp that they hit back in the 29th minute .sx Thompson almost made the line and when Castleford were penalised at a scrum , a quick tap saw McCarthy send Mike Fletcher over beneath the posts .sx
